 List of Boards & Commissions:

Part of the City’s operations is delegated to various boards and commissions.  The City’s Charter identifies several of the more prominent ones, including our Planning Commission, Board of Building Code Appeals, Board of Zoning Appeals, Civil Service Commission, Board of Ethics, and our Charter Review Commission.  There are many other non-Charter boards and commissions too.  A more complete list of the City’s boards and commissions is provided at right and information about many of them can be found here.

Section 6 of the City Charter gives the Mayor the authority to appoint members to these boards and commissions and to remove them for various reasons.  Both the appointments and the removals are subject to confirmation by or appeal to the City Council.  The only eligibility requirements are that you be a registered elector of the City of Brunswick, a resident for two years at the time of the appointment, and that you remain a resident during the term of service.  The term of service is generally three years.

These boards and commissions provide an excellent opportunity for citizen involvement in the City’s work.  Most involve a fairly limited time commitment and all require a willingness to learn.  Vacancies in these boards and commissions are advertised on the City’s website and on the local cable stations.  You can inquire with Barb Ortiz, the Clerk of City Council, about vacancies and to obtain applications for service.

Please consider getting a little more involved.
