Yesterday, the Brunswick Division of Fire responded to a report from Columbia Gas, about the smell of gas and an oily sheen on the surface of a stream leading to Brunswick Lake.
The contaminant was identified as fuel oil which was leaking from a damaged tank found at a Manhattan Ave. address. Throughout the process, the Ohio EPA operated as the lead agency with assistance from the Division of Fire, Building Department, Service Department, Medina County Hazmat and Medina County EMA representatives. Administrators of the Medina County Parks District were notified of the ongoing operations. The EPA will be assisted with mitigation and cleanup by a contractor.
A pedestrian bridge is closed and a stream remains diked as Brunswick Lake cleanup continues.
