Lt. Robert Safran of the Brunswick Division of Police has received the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society Lance Corporal Andrew W. Nowacki Memorial Veteran of the Year Award – 2018.
His nomination stated:
Lt Safran is a US Army veteran and has served with the Brunswick Police since 1998. He is a member of the VFW Post 9520. As a member of our Awards and Recognition Committee he developed an Armed Services Recognition special badge for officers who are veterans to wear on special occasions such as Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, the birthday of their service branch… This brings positive recognition to the officers service to our country in the armed forces. Most recently Lt Safran developed a Veteran’s Outreach program. The aim of the program is to pair interested veterans who are city employees with a veteran in the community. The goal of the program is to meet with the veteran at a coffee shop or somewhere in the community to engage in fellowship and listen to any concerns they may have and help link them up with services.
Additionally Lt Safran assisted at a Veteran’s Appreciation breakfast held at the Brunswick Community/Recreation Center which was hosted by the City of Brunswick.
Lt. Safran was recognized with other award recipients at a ceremony on May 19, 2018 at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica.
