The Brunswick area has recently been targeted by automated callers claiming to be from the Social Security Administration. Some of the calls are aggressive in nature threatening suspension of benefits and possible arrest if the victim does not comply.
These calls are usually generated from 800 prefixed numbers and sound robotic in tone. These are clear indicators of a scam. Do not send money and do not provide personal information on an unsolicited phone call.
If you receive one of these calls contact the Social Security Administration’s Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271. If you are the victim of this scam and have provided personal information or sent money please contact the Division of Police at 330-225-9111.
